@YYCFOODIEPAK's Review of Mister Chen's
Mister Chen serves up fantastic craft cocktails and innovative Asian dishes at the heart of Mission. We also fell in love with the modern Asian – inspired decor.
We started off with the Wild Boar Potstickers with Black Vinegar and Wasabi Aioli followed by the Mushroom Wontons with the Sesame Emulsion and Chili Oil. These flavours were excellent choices and complemented each other very well. Our preference of the two was definitely the wontons.
The Ahi Tuna Tataki Citrus & Japlapenos, Black Sesame and Ponzu Air was delightfully refreshing. We liked how they included mandarins and the cappuccino foam added a nice distinctive look and flavour to the dish.
For the mains, we were first served the Pork Belly with Indonesian Sweet Soya, Salt & Vinegar Chicharron. The sauce was both thick and rich which paired very well with the meat. BUT, the star of the night was the Crispy Octopus. It was cooked perfectly – crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (not chewy at all). It came with Red Pork and Smashed Potatoes at the bottom. We actually weren’t sure how the Avocado Chimichurri was going to be but it really surprised us. This dish showed creative innovation and provided a great modern take on a classic ingredient.
We ended the night with the Yuzu Lime Tart which was light and citrusy- a great way to end the dinner.
Thank you ParkerPR and Mister Chen’s for a wonderful evening! Our favourites of the night were the Mushroom Wontons and Crispy Octopus. This great experience will unquestionably inspire us to return and sample the rest of the menu.
